Our MMUN Students’ Visit to the Hungarian Consulate

Mr. Manly and the Montessori Model United Nations Club at the Hungarian Consulate

Greetings from Hungary!! The Upper Elementary Montessori Model United Nations delegates had a very educational and enlightening visit to the Hungarian Consulate recently. The people who work there were incredibly welcoming, kind and answered all of our questions. Our students covered a wide variety of topics including chemical weapons, indigenous people’s rights, rights of people with disabilities and the Hungarian military budget. When we arrived, Mary-Ann and Mary-Ann (they call themselves the Mary-Anns) were incredibly excited because Hungary had just won its first Winter Olympic Gold Medal … EVER! We also learned some interesting facts about Hungary…

  • we learned that Hungary is 2.2 times the size of Lake Ontario (just to give you a sense of scale)
  • half of all Hungarian immigrants in Canada live in Ontario
  • a Hungarian named Ernö Rubin created and patented the Rubik’s Cube in 1976(!)

All in all, we had a fantastic time and the information that we were given will be extremely helpful when our FHMS students represent Hungary at the Montessori Model United Nations from April 4th to 6th in Chicago!
